Tips to Feel Instantly Happy

March 18, 2020 by BestieTalks 1 Comment

Feeling Happy

We all go through moments of feeling down. Sometimes it can be hard to shake the funk but having some good tips and resources can help make shaking it easier. We are here to share some of our favorite ways to feel instantly happy! Try them out whenever you need them.

  • Smile – Smiling can instantly boost your mood when you’re feeling down and blue. Smiling can be used as a stress and pain reliever lowers your blood pressure and can improve relationships. Smiling can be contagious, so don’t be afraid to smile at someone because they may need it just as much as you.
  • Laugh – Laughing decreases your stress hormones and triggers a release of endorphins (we LOVE endorphins!). Whatever gets you laughing (comedies, jokes, watching funny YouTube videos), DO IT! You’ll instantly be forced to smile and start to feel better. Laughing produces endorphins which give you a natural high.
  • Workout – Working out is another endorphin releaser. It can be something as simple as going for a run, walk, jump roping, yoga or stretching. Working out increases your energy levels and is an instant mood booster (along with so many other benefits) plus, you never regret it once you’re done.
  • Compliment Someone– Usually, when you compliment someone, they thank you and smile back. This leaves you with that good warm feeling inside. There are both mental and emotional health benefits from giving compliments or showing kindness, such as; decreased stress, pain, insomnia, and affects the immune system and production of serotonin.
  • Call a Loved One – Call someone who is a positive and happy person. Your bestie, significant other, sibling, family member, or an old friend who you have been meaning to catch up with. Whoever you decide to call just make sure it is someone who is typically a positive and happy person who has a good conversation. Whatever you do, DON’T call someone who likes to complain or always has issues. These types of people will not help you. Whoever makes you smile by thinking of them is the person to call!
  • Clean – Cleaning up around the house can really clear your mind and make you happier. When you clean you are less likely to think about whatever it is that has you upset. Cleaning keeps you busy and gets your body moving which distracts you from being stuck in your head. Plus, a clean home is a wonderful way to promote happiness.
  • Soak in the Tub – Take a nice long soothing bath or shower! Light some candles or incense, use a bath bomb or a few drops of lavender essential oil. Set the mood and just relax! Put away your phone and grab a book or a magazine or just listen to some music and let your mind wander. You could even throw on a comedy on Netflix while chillin’ in the bath.
  • Food – Food is something that has a way to make almost anyone smile. Cooking a new or favorite recipe is a great way to get yourself out of a bad mood. If you don’t have the patience for cooking that day then go pick up your favorite meal or dessert. Treat yourself and I bet you will smile!
  • Meditate – Light some candles and just meditate. If you are not at home you can easily meditate on the go as well. Having a rough day at work? Go out to your car and just sit and relax for a few minutes or go for a walk and find a quiet area to just sit in silence. There are plenty of guided meditations online if you wanted to go a different route. Time alone for just 10 minutes can help bring you back to happiness and help you find balance.
  • Animals and Kids – Animals and kids have a way of making you smile without even trying. Go visit your nieces/nephews if you don’t have children of your own. Speaking from experience, a Facetime with my nieces makes me laugh constantly. Kids are hilarious and have a way of making you forget all the grown-up shit you are worrying about. Animals have the same impact. Play with your cat or take your dog to the park. Don’t have any animals?  YouTube has animal videos galore! Also, certain cities have cat cafes where you can go and play with a dozen cats for $20! Maybe even go adopt a new cat or dog and have daily happiness for the next 10+ years 🙂
  • Music – Certain music can put you in a positive happy mood. This type of music may be different for everyone. Again, music is known to lower stress levels, enhances your mood, reduces depression, relaxes your body, and increases verbal intelligence. Find music that makes you happy or takes you to your happy place. Plus, dancing is a great way to promote happiness! Next time you’re feeling down just get up, blast some music and dance like nobody is watching!!

You Deserve To Be Proud

September 6, 2019 by BestieTalks 29 Comments

Too Proud for Some People

Being proud of yourself and your accomplishments is easy for some but hard for others. If you are “too happy” or “too successful” a lot of people interpret that as bragging, fake, or even as a lie. Some people might even develop negative feelings towards you because of your accomplishments. Does that mean you should not talk about your happiness and success? No, absolutely not. Just because others don’t know how to be happy for you, doesn’t mean you should stop being happy for yourself. Do YOU and be PROUD!

Backward Perceptions

It can be hard to not care about what others think of you. We live in a world where people thrive on likes (literally) and notifications that let them know others approve of them. Why are we so hungry for the approval of others? Why do we let other people determine our worth and happiness? Did you get that promotion to make others happy? No. You did it for YOU. Did you work your ass off to get your degree to make others happy? No. You did it for YOU. Did you find someone who loves you and treats you like a queen to make others happy?

No! What most people fail to acknowledge is the grind you had to put in to get that promotion. The hours of homework on top of working and handling all your other responsibilities was NOT easy. The number of assholes you had to go through and the tears you shed until you found someone who loves you like you deserve to be loved. All of your happiness and accomplishments were not just dumped into your lap. You worked hard, and most people have no idea the hell you had to endure. You deserve to be proud, happy and in love.

Self-Love is Not Narcissist

A lot of people get jealous of the success that they have yet to achieve. It’s not a race, but the ones who act like it is, are usually the ones losing. I’m not competing with anyone but myself. And if you are one of those people, put that energy into something you can do to improve your own life. Then you’ll understand the amazing feeling of accomplishing something you’ve been striving for. You deserve to be proud of what you worked so hard to achieve.

Be Proud of Yourself and Others

Next time you accomplish something your proud of, be PROUD! And when you see others proud of their accomplishments, cheer them on. Cause we all know that feeling when someone acknowledges your hard work and why not share that with others. being proud is a natural happy experience so don’t let anyone dull your shine.

How To Shake A Bad Day

August 19, 2019 by Raynita 13 Comments

Bad Days Suuuuuccccck

Do you ever feel like you’ve not only had a bad day but a bad week? I hate that shit. One thing turns into another and it fucks up your day. Then, that thing rolls into the next day which puts a damper on that day too. Bad days suck! But what do you do about it? How do you shake them? I would love to share some things I do, but I would also love to hear what you do to get back in the groove of things. No one deserves a bad day.

What To Do With A Bad Day

1. Focus on YOU!- Take some time to focus on you. Whether that be going on a run or privately reading or writing in your journal. Relax your mind and your environment and let your thoughts unfold. Finding peace with yourself helps everything else fall in place.

2. Go somewhere that makes you happy- Changing your environment can do so much for your well being. Go to your favorite coffee shop, yoga studio, park, or wherever makes you happy.  Usually, your happy place has happy people in it which will brighten your mood.

3. Do something mindfully- You can do just about anything mindfully. Take the time to mindfully think about everything you are physically doing. How deep your breathing, how the air feels on your skin, the smells and sounds around you and so forth. Mindfulness helps focus your attention on the present moment and accepting it without any judgment. It is proven to help stress and improve happiness.

4. Vent- Sometimes just telling someone ( that you trust) what is going on can make all the difference. They may be able to see something you missed or can explain something better to you. Just having a reliable nonjudgmental ear can make your day so much better.

5. Gardening- For me, there is just something so majestic about getting my hands in the dirt to make new life grow. This is the time I take to be one with nature. Repotting plants or watering the grass by myself brings me happiness and a sense of mindfulness knowing that I am helping things around me grow. It is a calming sense whenever I reconnect with nature.

6. Guided Meditation- There are so many cool apps, but I think one that everyone needs to have is Headspace. Headspace is an app that provides guided meditation, thoughtful reminders, and other tips to help you be a better you.

7. Exercise- Doing some type of workout helps pass time and makes you feel amazing. During this process, you’re working on bettering yourself physically, emotionally, and so many other ways. When you exercise, your body releases endorphins that trigger a positive feeling in the body that makes you feel great.

8. Yoga- Specifically yoga! I have gone to yoga in the worse mood and for some reason, the instructor always knows exactly what to say that resonates with me at just the right time. And I think that’s exactly how yoga is supposed to work. You also get to set your own intention for your practice which is perfect when trying to change your mood. Recently, I have had the ultimate release during yoga that involved crying and it just felt so perfect and exonerating. It was exactly what I needed!

9. Confrontation- Confrontation doesn’t have to be a bad thing, it simply starts a conversation. And if you’re able to confront whatever puts you in a bad mood, it may make you feel better or give you more understanding. Of course, try to do this in the right, nicest way possible so it doesn’t backfire on you.

10. Positive light- Be around someone who you see as a positive light. That can be a bestie, niece or nephew, or just a friend or coworker who makes you laugh. Kids and babies always put a smile on my face, so a visit to a family member is the perfect prescription for a bad day.

Turn Your Frown Upside down

Of course, these aren’t the only ways to fix your bad day but these are a few of my go-to’s. Know that every day is a new day and don’t let one bad day turn into another. When you wake up, look at it as a fresh start to a new day that has a clean slate. Remember to forgive, don’t live with a grudge or a heavy heart. You don’t get today back so live it being happy and give the bird to your bad days.

What Do You Do With A Bad Day?

Please, share how you handle a bad day. Feel free to try these tips and share with us if they helped you at all. Wishing you all the best days in the world!!!

5 Things to be Grateful For

August 31, 2018 by Jessica 4 Comments

It’s Easy to Complain

For some reason, it is so common and easy to complain about all the things that are wrong. A lot of people choose to complain, bitch and groan on a daily basis that it becomes the norm. Sometimes seeing the glass half full can be hard but really it’s all about flipping your perception. Instead of bitching about something, I bet you could find some sort of positive spin on it. Next time you see yourself doing this just stop and think for a second. A lot of people take things, people, and moments for granted.Don’t be one of those people.

Life is not meant to be perfect or blissful 100% of the time. You are allowed to have your days where you complain or vent about shit that pisses you off but if you do this daily that’s when it’s an issue. Complaining about shit actually makes you obsess over things that shouldn’t be worthy of that much attention and energy. Think about all the energy spent on complaining and all of the other things that you could be doing with that energy.

Things to be Grateful For

We put together a list of 5 common things that people bitch about. Instead of encouraging that bitching this list is going to encourage a change in thought. An opportunity to see things on the flip side. Remember, your perception determines your outlook.

  1. Traffic during your commute to work. How many times have you or someone you know complained about the traffic/drive to work? It happens all the time. Some people let this get them so upset that it can knock their whole attitude out of whack. Instead of bitching about the traffic how about being grateful that you have a job to drive to. I bet there’s a lot of people out there that would trade you spots and would gladly sit in that traffic with a smile on their face. Stuck in traffic? Relax, play some jams, practice meditative deep breathing. Just be happy. Traffic sucks but why be mad about something you have no control over? Think about “why” you’re stuck in that traffic and be thankful for that “why”.
  2. The people you can be authentically real with. How many people can you be your real true self with? There’s no judgment, analyzing or standards that you feel that you have to live up to. Let’s face it; people are fake as hell these days. People care more about what a celebrity is doing on Snapchat rather than asking or being genuinely interested in how you are doing. As long as you have just ONE person that you can be real with then you have someone to be grateful for. If you have more than one then you, my friend, should count your blessings. This might seem like something so minor, but it’s overlooked and not appreciated by most. When shit goes bad think about the ones, you are real with and open up to. Those are the people worth your time. All of those other people that cause drama, act like they are your friend but ain’t, or are one-sided in the friendship, are seriously not worth getting upset over. Take the time to evaluate who drains you of energy and who uplifts your energy.
  3. Your health. This seems like another obvious one, but most people take their health for granted and only appreciate it when they get sick or injured. It’s easy to get caught up and consumed with the world outside of our bodies, but we shouldn’t forget to notice ourselves, our health, and our bodies. How beautiful it is to wake up every day, have your five senses, and the ability to walk and run. Your body is your vessel, and it’s constantly working for YOU. Listen to your body and give it what it needs for you to be at your best. When everything is going wrong around you, there are a million things going right inside of you. Don’t talk down about yourself or be too hard on yourself. No one is perfect nor is everyone walking around perfectly healthy. Find the things to be grateful for in regards to your health and try to look at your body in a more positive light. You don’t need to be on the cover of a magazine to be grateful for your body. What’s on the inside matters more.
  4. The things you DO have. Being upset over things you don’t have is adding stress to your life that is self-inflicted. It’s okay to be ambitious and to want certain things, but that should override the things that you DO have. A lot of people take for granted the things they do have by always wanting bigger, better, shinier, more expensive items. At one point in time, you didn’t have all the things you have right now. Isn’t that alone something to be grateful for? Remind yourself of the things you had to go through to get the things you have today. Appreciation is a contagious emotion, and you should put it out into the Universe daily. I bet if you lost some of the things you DO have today you would miss them just as much as you yearn for other things. Society loves pushing greed onto us when really we should show more gratitude. Don’t take the things you DO have for granted.
  5. The present moment. How many of us are always thinking ahead? Thinking about tomorrow instead of appreciating today. Thinking about what you have to do next weekend instead of how you are feeling right this minute. When you are obsessed with the future, you are robbing yourself of the joy of the present moment. Learning to slow down and appreciate the present is something I know a lot of people struggle with, including myself. This life is so beautiful, but a lot of the time the present moment gets outranked by an upcoming event. Don’t rob yourself of the time you DO have. The present moment really is the only guaranteed time you have and obsessing about an appointment next week steals that guaranteed time from you. You are alive and have the opportunity to think, feel, breath and love RIGHT NOW. That is something to be incredibly grateful for!

Can you relate ? Please share your thoughts with us!

Zen Goals

March 20, 2018 by Jessica 2 Comments

Finding Peace

Positivity is something that I strive for on a daily basis. There are days when finding positivity can be challenging but its there if you really want to find it. This world is hectic, fast, and loud but when I find myself on my yoga mat, I find balance and peace. Taking time for myself and realigning my mind, body and spirit can help make everything around me more peaceful.

Namaste

Before yoga attitude

I am that person who recommends yoga to everyone. I have no shame about it either. Yoga does so many positive things for your body and mental state that its better than any prescription a doctor could write you. Whenever I enter my yoga studio, I’m immediately surrounded by smiling and happy people. Yogi’s are naturally happy people, and it’s refreshing to be in a room full of positive energy. Everyone in that room is there to work on their practice, and there is no judgment. You are not there to compete with anyone and what happens on your mat is your own personal journey. You are there to focus on yourself. Every class I learn something new about my body, and it’s an amazing experience to see yourself change, adjust, and grow.

Banish Your Bad Mood

Whatever might be bothering me seems to lessen by the end of a yoga class. I walk out more positive and relaxed. This positivity follows me when I leave yoga and becomes a part of my life wherever I am. If I’m having a shitty day or just stressed out, yoga has a way of turning this around. Sometimes I can get my husband to tag along with me and its time together that I really enjoy. There’s something about working our bodies into awkward positions and pushing ourselves while being side by side. It’s almost like we are sharing a moving mediation together. There are times that I have to beg him to come with me, but when he thanks me afterward for taking him, it always makes me smile. I love taking people to yoga with me because I genuinely enjoy seeing people achieve that state of positivity and happiness that everyone deserves to have.

Zen marriage goals

Next time you are in a bad mood just take 15 minutes to stretch, breathe and let your mind surrender to whatever your body is feeling. This is something you can do almost anywhere and at any time. Finding peace is not hard it just takes commitment. Be committed to yourself and your happiness. If you work on it every day, you will see that having a positive outlook is a lot easier than you think. If you are a positive person, it has the ability to influence others. Positivity is a chain reaction that our world needs more of. A happier you leads to you being a happier person to others and has the potential to have an unstoppable ripple effect.

Do some yoga to have a positive impact on your life and those around you!

Post yoga attitude

Are you a yogi? Does it work for you as it does for me? If you haven’t given yoga a try what is it that you do to boost your happiness? Please share and spread the positive vibes!
